Long Island

Situated in southeast New York and connected to Manhattan via numerous bridges and tunnels, Long Island is the largest island in the contiguous United States. Urban in some parts and rural in others, Long Island as a whole is known for its high quality of life. The affluent North Shore of Long Island was glamorously depicted in F. Scott Fitzgerald's famous 1920s novel, The Great Gatsby.

The North Shore

The term "North Shore" typically references the northern coastline in Nassau County and western Suffolk County, Long Island, although the phrase is often used generically to describe the upper shoreline of Long Island as a whole. With its rocky beaches and majestic cliffs overlooking the ocean, the North Shore affords its inhabitants breathtaking views in a serene, seaside atmosphere.

Famous for its "Gold Coast Mansions," the North Shore takes its roots in aristocracy and retains a wealthy, upper class element to this day. Discover thriving harborside villages like Sea Cliff, offering quaint specialty shops, fine dining, entertainment and art galleries. Explore the elegant homes tucked into Locust Valley's rolling hills... or the pristine beaches and historic landmarks of Oyster Bay. Stroll through the Japanese Gardens and wildlife sanctuaries of Mill Neck and Glen Cove. The many recognized clubs in the area offer top-ranked golf courses, tennis, squash, croquet and much more. No matter where you roam, Long Island's North Shore affords its residents a taste of fine living, steeped in rich history and culture.

The South Shore

"South Shore" is often used as a generic term to describe the southern half of Long Island; however, it specifically refers to the Atlantic Coastline of Suffolk and Nassau counties. In contrast to the rocky bluffs of the North Shore, this side of the island is known for smooth, pristine beaches - attracting nautical enthusiasts and beach lovers from all over the world.

Long Island's South Shore offers much in the way of culture and economical diversity. While this part of Long Island does hold a greater share of smaller sized lots than the north shore, there is still much affluence to be found here. The South Shore is home of Hewlett Bay Park – which is also referred to as one of the Five Towns. Hewlett Bay Park ranks within the top 20 highest highest-income areas of New York. It proudly harbors the historic estate homes of the Vanderbilt’s, Havemeyer and Bourne families, among others.

Dine in fine restaurants, embark on an upscale shopping adventure and drink in the local culture. Discover charming hamlets like Rockville Centre, which artfully blends small-town charm with urban sophistication.
